> AMAZON: STATE-OF-THE-ART TECHNOLOGY ON A CLASSIC YACHT - February 2010

Chantier Naval des Minimes, Acamarine, Naval Force 3, Shipelec, all members of PRLR, are working on the refit of 75-foot classic yacht Amazon, a 1972 Sparkman and Sephens design. In addition to engine works, the teak deck is being totally rebuilt by Chantier Naval des Minimes, in collaboration with the German company Wolz Nautic, who just joined PRLR. For the first time in a refit yard, they are using an innovative technique which has up to now only been applied to new builds: fitting the deck in pre-assembled sheets. With laser and 3D quotations of the deck, a template was created in plywood. All the teak parts are then cut according to the digital program, and glued on a laminated base. The refit, started in December 2009, should end by April 2010.
