Shipelec was created in 1991 in Saint-Nazaire. The group has been reorganized around the St Nazaire head office, and now includes three other independent companies:
- A.E-SHIPELEC at La Rochelle
- A.N-SHIPELEC at Saint-Nazaire
- Puiroux-SHIPELEC at Lorient

Its activities are:

Shipelec studies, conceives and implements all new installations, it also renovates electrical installations onboard yachts, work and commercial ships:

- Equipment and wiring of main, division or specific switchboards
- Installation and distribution towards all  consumers
- Assistance and repair service
